Founders' Story

Ta Themneh was formed on the 30th of June 2020. With the purpose of unifying the desires and ambitions of all individuals from the Themneh community in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The inspiration to establish this formidable group arose from the lack of sustainability observed in a succession of similarly formed groups. In the beginning, a handful of young individuals, such as Kataman from Manchester, Mustapha Conteh (Port Loko Borboh), Abou Bakarr Kargbo (ABK), Mohamed Alhaji Conteh and others, assembled at Mustapha Conteh’s dwelling to discuss this concept.
This dream began to take shape during the COVID-19 pandemic, when social distancing measures were in place, in order to sustain its existence. Thus, a meeting was held under a tree in the garden of the Crawford Tenant Hall in Camberwell, London, with the participation of several individuals such as Abu Black Kamara, Sam Kay, Mohamed Botito Bangura, Lawyer Mustapha, Kholifa Koroma, Abubakar Sidiqqui Kamara, Lawyer Amidu Ayoub, Ramatu Fofanah, and others. The purpose of this gathering was to commence the establishment of the Ta Da Themne Association. The objective of this organization is to advocate for the preservation of the customs and traditions of the Temne people, enhance the well-being of its members, and contribute to the development of the Sierra Leone region
